Although it is only in its first year of existence, Ne’emas Bais Yaakov girls elementary school has already gained a reputable name in the Lakewood community for its exceptional level of education and the warm and loving environment provided for the students.
Ne’emas Bais Yaakov opened this year with its first class of girls. It was initiated after Rabbi Kalman Katz was approached by local community leaders and asked to open a girl’s elementary school due to the incredible growth of Lakewood and the surrounding areas, which has led to the need to establish another exceptional mossad of chinuch habanos in addition to the existing wonderful Bais Yaakovs in Lakewood.
Rabbi Katz agreed to accept this mission and set about laying the foundations for Ne’emas Bais Yaakov. Mrs. Sarah Sussman, a respected longtime Mechaneches, was hired to serve as the full-time Menaheles of the new school, and took on the role of overseeing every aspect of the curriculum and educational standards. Rabbi Mordechai Bernstein, a well-known communal activist with a long history of accomplishments in many areas, was then asked to become involved with the new school and take an integral role in putting it on its feet and in the continued operations. Hadracha in the opening of the school was provided by Rav Nosson Stein shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Toras Chessed, who continues to serve as a revered guide for the young mossad.
As the school year began, Ne’emas Bais Yaakov had the warm, personal feel of a small school, yet also the professionalism and stability of an established mossad hachinuch, due to the extensive preparations and experience of the staff. A primary goal of Ne’emas Bais Yaakov is to provide a warm environment where each talmidah truly feels at home. This personalized atmosphere works hand-in-hand with the high-level chinuch that is truly fitting for a Lakewood Bais Yaakov.
Ne’emas Bais Yaakov will be holding a Melava Malka Dinner this Motzoei Shabbos Parshas Beshalach at Glatt Ambience, located on Kennedy Blvd. in Glatt Bite Plaza in Lakewood, NJ. The event will be held for parents and friends of the school, as well as for the community at large and anyone interested in learning more about this vibrant, young mossad of chinuch habanos. A highlight of the evening will be a fascinating Chinuch Panel with esteemed mechanchim discussing pertinent educational topics. All are invited to attend and to familiarize themselves with this new shining star on the horizon of the Ihr Hatorah.

In this packed parsha class, we explored two ideas from the Mei HaShiloach; the first regarding the importance of striking a balanced approach to life including both confidence and awe and the second a brilliant explanation of “pi hachiros” and the true definition of freedom, a teaching from the Kedushas Levi regarding the elevated status our nation holds over the angels, and a lesson from the Noam Elimelech about an indicator as to the nature of one’s week.

With the participation of 45,000 Jews…
For the first time ever, the two leading choirs in the world of Jewish music – the Malchus and Shira choirs – and the two best orchestras in the world of Jewish music – Hamenagnim and Freiich, with some 50 musicians between them, will appear together on one stage at the Dirshu Siyum Hashas to be held this Sunday. * Following an unprecedented wave of requests, an additional hall has been opened close to the original hall in New Jersey
*
Dirshu opened the chain of siyumim worldwide when it held its siyum event at the Jerusalem International Convention Center on Motzai Shabbos Chanuka – the event which served as the first of all the siyumim in the Jewish world, and it is also the Dirshu organization which is closing the series of siyumim for the 12th Daf Hayomi cycle.
In an unprecedented event to be held at the Prudential Center, the largest indoor arena in the USA, some 45,000 people will attend the siyum with the participation of maranan v’rabanan, shlita, from all over the Jewish world, choirs, and tens of thousands of Jews from Dirshu families in North America.
The delegation from Eretz Yisroel will be headed by the Sanzer Rebbe, shlita, who will complete the Shas at the important event and give chizzuk; HaGaon HaGadol Rav Dovid Cohen, shlita, member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, Rosh Yeshiva of Chevron and member of the Dirshu world presidency; HaGaon HaTzaddik Rav Shimon Galai, shlita, and HaGaon HaTzaddik Rav Aharon Toisig, shlita.
This time Dirshu is breaking historical records with its musical production. For the first time ever, the two leading choirs in the world of Jewish music – the Malchus Choir from Israel and the Shira Choir from the United States, as well as the two best orchestras in the world of Jewish music – Hamenagnim and Freiich, with some 50 musicians between them, will perform together on the same stage.
During the event, which will set new records for investing efforts into siyumei haShas, Dirshu’s new and poignant melodies which were composed especially for the series of siyumei haShas will be sung in honor of the Torah, with Shalom Wagshal presiding over the musical production. Artist and composer, Reb Mona Rosenblum, will present an incredible composition “Behisasef Roshei Am”, which was written especially for the occasion and will be performed by Reb Motty Steinmetz and Reb Zanvil Weinberger. The event will include additional songs by the Hamenagnim Orchestra and the Malchus Choir and singers Reb Yisroel Adler, Reb Shlomie Cohen, Eli Herzlich, Zanvil Weinberger, Ahrele Samet, and child soloist Dudi Hershkop, conducted by Moishy Roth, Ruvi Banet, and Moshe Laufer. The event is produced by MC Productions.
A special and moving 30-minute presentation will also be screened, “Hiney Yomim Bo’im” which was prepared by Reb Mordechai Tzin and Reb Yosef Pollack, and moves between the two world wars and describes the great blow struck to the glorious world of European Jewry. The special presentation, which includes live exhibits on the stage, touchingly tells the amazing story of a father and son who were at the World Congress of Agudas Yisroel in Vienna in 1923. It moves between various places in the history of Europe’s Jews on the eve of its great destruction, and demonstrates the importance of the daf gemorra in continuing the chain of the generations.
Following an unprecedented wave of requests for the Prudential Center arena in New Jersey which contains tens of thousands of seats, all the tickets were sold out several weeks ago, and the Dirshu USA management decided to open an additional hall, the NJPAC which holds thousands more seats, to accommodate those who wish to participate in the great event. At this venue, musical giants Reb Levy Falkowitz and Reb Motty Ilowitz will appear together with the orchestra of Reb Shia Berko, with selected parts from the central arena broadcast to the nearby hall throughout the evening.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” — or “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” as it is known in the United States — was released in Yiddish by the Swedish publisher Olniansky Tekst Farlag on Friday.
It was translated by Arun Visnawath, 29, the son of an Indian-American father and Gitl Schaecter-Visnawath, author of the “Comprehensive English-Yiddish Dictionary.” Her father was a professor of Yiddish at Columbia University.
Talking to Tablet, Viswanath says he didn’t let the book’s Christian components prevent him from infusing the story with genuine Yiddish flavor.
“I recast some of the characters as certain Jewish archetypes purely on linguistic grounds,” he explained. “I turned Dumbledore into this very lomdish [Jewishly learned] guy who speaks with a lot of loshen koydesh [Hebrew and rabbinic phrases].” In other words, Dumbledore speaks in the Yiddish register of a rabbinic dean of a yeshiva because that’s the role he plays at Hogwarts, not because he’s actually Jewish.
Likewise, “McGonagall and Snape, and especially [Argus] Filch, speak in a particularly Litvish [Lithuanian] register, so you can sort of really hear their dialect. The same thing with [Rubeus] Hagrid, who speaks with a very deep back country Polish register,” a Yiddish analogue to “his west country English accent” in the original books.

The number of anti-Semitic incidents reported in the United Kingdom hit a record high in 2019 and increased for the fourth consecutive year, according to figures released on Feb. 6 by the Community Security Trust.
There were 1,805 anti-Semitic incidents in 2019 in Britain, a rise of 7 percent from the previous year and the highest number ever recorded by the CST.
CST chief executive David Delew said “2019 was another difficult year for British Jews, and it is no surprise that recorded anti-Semitic incidents reached yet another high. It is clear that both social media and mainstream politics are places where anti-Semitism and racism need to be driven out, if things are to improve in the future.”
The CST said increases in the number of incidents occurred “at a time when Jews, anti-Semitism and the Labour Party were the repeated subjects of national controversy,” and that the “debate about Brexit also made this a politically contentious time during which recorded hate crime rose more generally, affecting many communities.”
Thirty-nine percent of all incidents in 2019 were related to online anti-Semitism, with the vast majority taking place on Twitter. A total of 157 physical assaults were reported in 2019—up 27 percent from 2018.
CST also identified 224 incidents as “Labour Party-related” and 126 as far-right.
The trust stated that heightened media coverage of anti-Semitism and the Labour’s anti-Semitism problem in specific may have led to increased attacks in 2019, while on the far-right, “relative stability points to an anti-Semitism that is less volatile and reactive.”
